Selecting the Right Cookware Set

Andre Speransky

Why should I buy a cookware set?

It is usually more economical to buy things in sets. When you buy dinnerware in a set, you usually pay less than buying the pieces individually. As a result, buying a set of pots and pans will be more cost-effective than building your own set.

What Reviewers Have to Say

What to consider when choosing a cookware?

There are a few things you need to keep in mind when choosing cookware. These include the following:

  • Heat Conductivity: In general,  the better the heat conductivity the better and the more evenly your food will cook. Cookware made of copper heats up faster than stainless steel cookware, but it loses heat just as quickly. On the other hand, equal heat distribution and temperature control are the hallmarks of stainless steel cookware.
  • Durability: It's important to select cookware that looks good and lasts for a long time. Consider purchasing stainless cookware as they are known for their durability.
  • Reactivity: Ensure that you are aware of the reactivity of each product. Certain metals react with certain foods. Aluminum, for example, may alter the taste of some foods when it is in contact with them.
  • Maintenance: Consider the amount of maintenance required to keep your cookware in good shape. Copper and cast iron cookware usually require quite a bit of effort to keep them clean, while stainless steel is usually easier to maintain.

 How to maintain your cookware?

Keep your cookware sets looking pristine and durable by following these simple maintenance tips:

  • After each use, wash your cookware with soapy water, and sponge and dry them well before storing. To prevent food from sticking to your pan, soak cookware in hot, soapy water for a few hours if you are not able to clean it immediately.
  • As copper reacts chemically with foods, it is best to avoid cooking highly acidic foods such as tomato sauce in copper cookware since this will leave your meal with a metallic taste.
  • Avoid using dishwashing detergent to clean your copper cookware since it may cause discoloration. In the event that your copper starts to discolor, mix white vinegar with 2 tablespoons of coarse salt, rub the mixture onto the copper with a sponge, and then thoroughly rinse the copper.
  • Use plastic kitchen tools instead of metal ones, as metal can scratch cookware. Wood and silicone utensils can also be used for your cookware.
  • Coated pots and pans cannot be stacked on top of one another. Store them separately to prevent scratching and chipping.
