Huawei (pronounced as wah-way) is a Chinese telecommunication company that has been producing mobile phones since 1997, and their first mobile device manufactured with Android software was in 2009. The company has launched hundreds of phones under different brand identities. Huawei is presently the second-largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world, behind only Samsung. Due to the US trade ban, the phone has experienced setbacks in using Google's mobile service--but that has not limited the popularity of Huawei phones globally.

Let’s look at some of the phones that Huawei presently offers.

Huawei phones employ different types of displays:

• Liquid Crystal Display (LCD), which relies on a backlight as the sole source of light, making it a better requirement for a TV than a smartphone. This display shows subdued colors, an off-axis viewing angle, and a brighter overall picture.

• Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED), which uses a thin film of organic material to produce light when current is applied. OLED is the driving force behind the development of curved edge displays of smartphones. This display offers a high level of control over each pixel. It allows for deep blacks and high contrast ratio.

• Active Matrix OLED (AMOLED) allows for consistent lighting across the whole display. This display shows distinct colors, deep blacks, and an eye-searing contrast ratio. It produces the most vivid color, and it is energy efficient.

• Size and weight: Bigger doesn't always mean better, though a bigger screen (above 5.7-inches) is best for games and video viewing. If you are concerned about the weight and one-hand operation, it is advisable to go for a phone that weighs 140 to 170 grams and a 5.4 to 5.8-inches dimension.

• Charging: Recent Huawei phones comes with both wired and wireless charging option. A wireless charging option helps in emergencies, like no electricity, or if you forgot your dedicated phone charger.

• Network: The higher the network, the faster the internet speed. Most Huawei phones operate on a 4G network with options of going lower. But the best version is the 5G network.

• Fingerprint: The fingerprint ID option is preferred over using a code to unlock the phone, due to its sensitivity.

• Water and dust resistance: It is best to go with a phone that has been tested for resistance to these elements, expressed in the IP (=Ingress Protection) rating.

• Processor: The processor controls everything that happens on the device. A processor has multiple cores for its proper functioning which are Dual, Quad, Hexa, and Octa-Core. When choosing a Huawei phone, go for one with a processor ranking score of above 120, such as Kirin 9000, 9000E, and 990 5G.

• Operating system (OS): The best Huawei has now is EMUI 11.0.0.160 for Andriod 10. EMUI 9.x and 10.x are equally good OS if you want to go lower.

• Memory: Memory on a phone includes RAM and ROM. RAM is used by OS and application software, while ROM is the phone's internal storage. The bigger the RAM, the more smoothly phone software can run. The bigger the ROM, the more data the phone can store.

• Camera: The resolution of the Huawei phone will be measured in megapixels, with more megapixels meaning being able to capture more detail. A phone with a triple or quad camera usually features the main camera, an ultra-wide sensor, a depth sensor, and a macro camera. The high-end Huawei phone has a zoom camera in addition.

• Battery: The higher the battery capacity, the longer it can last without charging it up. A good Huawei has a battery capacity of 4000 to 5000mAH.

• High Dynamic Range (HDR): The HDR is responsible for the brightness and high quality of a phone’s images and videos. The two known forms are Dolby Vision and HDR10. • Huawei Y-series: These are the cheaper Huawei products that still have fantastic specs and features. This phone can easily fit into any budget with good batteries, the memory ranging between 64-128GB, and Full HD+ resolution.
