Drilling Capacity

For more demanding tasks, you might need a capacity of 16mm or more. Consider the types of projects you'll be working on to determine the right drilling capacity for you.

Motor Power

Motor power, measured in watts or horsepower, indicates the strength of the drill. A more powerful motor can handle tougher materials and larger drill bits. Additionally, an adjustable table that can tilt and move up or down allows for more versatile drilling angles and depths. For general use, a table size of around 200x200mm is adequate. If you work with larger materials or need more flexibility, look for a larger and more adjustable table.

Chuck Type and Size

The chuck is the part of the drill that holds the drill bit. Chuck size, usually measured in millimeters, determines the maximum diameter of the drill bit you can use. Common sizes are 13mm and 16mm. A keyless chuck allows for quick and easy bit changes, while a keyed chuck provides a more secure grip on the bit. Choose a chuck size and type based on the drill bits you plan to use and how often you need to change them.

Build Quality and Stability

Build quality and stability are essential for accurate and safe drilling. A well-built pillar drill with a sturdy base and column will reduce vibrations and ensure precise drilling. Look for a drill made from durable materials like cast iron or steel. Stability features, such as a wide base and secure mounting options, are also important to prevent the drill from tipping over during use.
